Cowgirl Soccer Ahead of Bedlam – OSU Sports Report

Just a day and a few hours away, Cowboy fans. Football heads out today for Corvallis, Oregon and the team’s first game against Oregon State.

But before that, the Cowgirl soccer team has a chance to put a marker down against their Bedlam rivals tonight in Norman. In the most recent United Soccer Coaches poll, the Sooners were outside the top-25, but received the 31st amount of votes. The Cowgirls still did not receive any votes, but could change that with a good performance tonight.

Senior midfielder Jaci Jones says she’s played with and against a bunch of the OU players growing up. The captain from Mustang, Oklahoma says in Bedlam, she just focuses on the team beating OU. Jones scored in both the win over Lamar and the unfinished match against UTSA for the Cowgirls.

OSU also boasts the reigning Big 12 freshman of the week in the conference in Olyvia Dowell. Dowell is from Texas so what has she learned from her teammates about Bedlam?

“I know it’s always a big deal,” Dowell said.

Dowell played a part in all three goals against Lamar in her debut.

Onto some golf. Yesterday evening the Golf Coaches Association of America announced that decorated OSU coach Alan Bratton will coach the 2020 United States Arnold Palmer Cup team with Dan Brooks from Duke.

Next years Palmer Cup will see the team compete against the International team at Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland.

The Arnold Palmer Cup is the collegiate golf version of the Ryder Cup and is outfitted with the best amateur players in the world, including plenty of Cowboys.

Austin Eckroat played on this year’s team. He joined Alex Noren, Charles Howell III, Kristoffer Ventura, Matthew Wolff, Rickie Fowler, Viktor Hovland and many more Pokes, who have featured in the competition. Eckroat was the 15th Cowboy to represent either team USA or the international team.

Finally, tonight at 7 pm, one of OSU men’s basketball’s top recruiting targets Bryce Thompson is set to announce his top schools according to his Twitter account.
